like the noonday

Yesterday, she broke out the mixing bowls and assembled ingredients- iPad cued to the right recipe.   My 8-year-old daughter then spent the next couple of hours making cookies and muffins for tonight's adoption fundraiser.  Our friends are adopting Lily, a baby girl from China, and there is still much money to be raised.  This is our little effort.  During the cookie making process,  Anna Grace stumbled over the bench and fell.  My AG, dramatic as she is, exclaimed "I'm sacrificing myself for Lily!"  She said it with a smile and she was, of course, kidding (she's a funny one), but it reminded me that even the little sacrifices and efforts count.  Hosting a jewelry party with pomegranate spritzers and desserts doesn't seem like and probably isn't any kind of sacrifice, but it at the very least engages our hearts in the way the passage from Isaiah suggests we should:

"...when you satisfy the needs of the oppressed, your night will be come like the noonday."  Isaiah 58:10  (Noonday Collection's choice verse)

We may not raise much money tonight and we may not be doing much, but in gratitude for what we've been given, we will do well support our friend's effort to bring her baby girl home giving her a forever family and a whole new life.  We will do well to support the efforts of women around the globe working their way out of poverty.  We will do well to at least think about them and take the first little baby step in changing the way we spend money.

Again, it's not much of a sacrifice, but it's a start.

Check out www.meganshaver.noondaycollection.com and join me tonight if you're local and can make it!  If you can't be here, you can make a purchase online that will count toward the fundraiser.  Contact me at candacedchaney@gmail.com for more information!

Noonday's mission:
  • Providing jobs that create a pathway out of poverty for families. A stable income means a family is less likely to abandon their child.
  • Help families raise money for their own adoptions. We give 10% of trunk show sales directly to the adoptive family when they host a trunk show.
  • Aside from donating 10% towards qualified adoptive families, Noonday Collection also gives towards orphan care and prevention. Watch the video to see one of our beneficiaries.
  • The dream: Take YOU on a trip to visit artisans and visit orphans in their distress.
*I am not financially benefitting from this and it is not a pyramid or network marketing scheme- just a fundraiser.

That made me cry. It's been a day and I am overwhelmed and grateful for love of good friends. :) And their daughters.
