picturing advent: days 9 & 10

When life is hard and you're tired and your heart breaks with news of a child's funeral or impending divorces or you switch on the news and it all seems bad and you're just tired so tired... there's Christmas.  Even when we, like Joseph in his pit and betrayal and years in prison, can't see how it's all going to turn out, we know that what others mean for evil, God intends for good.

Hope, hope, hope rings like a bell in our weary-busy days of Advent.

"Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
'Til He appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn."
