and that is what we are

I recently took photos at our school's father-daughter dance and subsequently watched a heart wrenching episode of "This Is Us" in which the beloved patriarch suddenly and tragically dies.

This dizzying combination ripped my heart wipe open.

But what I felt like the Lord was whispering through all of my raw emotion was this:  He loves me like that.  He loves us like that.

He loves us like a devoted father, cherishing his little beauty.  He is fierce about protecting her, loving her, and making sure she knows her worth and value.

If we're lucky enough to have an earthly dad who showed us that kind of love, it's a wildly amazing gift.  But if we didn't have a dad who showed us that kind of love or if our dad can no longer wrap his arms around us, we can still take comfort because this beautiful picture of love in our earthly fathers is only that- a picture.  The real deal, eternal truth is that our Creator loves us like that but MORE than that and He'll never leave us or fail us.  We are not alone and we can fearlessly dance, showcasing our truest, best selves because His love frees us like that.

It's a Daddy-daughter dance like no other.

"See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!" 1 John 3:1
